As the summer ends and the US heads into the six month of pandemic-life, virtual and immersive music continues to grow and innovate. Artists and fans are connecting virtually now more than ever. Here is the major news from August, 2020.

Investments and Acquisitions

Roc Nation Duo Ceraadi Talks New Partnership With VR Entertainment’s Platform, AmazeVR & More. Beside VR Entertainment’s Platform, AmazeVR, the musical influencers are gearing up for a multi-sensory experience, by partnering to launch virtual concerts this fall. “With this virtual situation, I feel like we were built for this because we are so big on social media. In-person concerts have become a distant memory of 2020. When we are recording, we hear the VR, and it sounds so real. It gives you chills,” explains Emaza.

Big Picture

A Focus on Augmented Reality

Hipster Bait has expanded its location-based music discovery app into California and Nevada with over 9,000 new virtual locations to hide music in. It’s a free app on iOS and Android that sends fans out into the real world to hunt down and capture unreleased, exclusive music using augmented reality and location-based technology.

From Chris Etches of pl.ai and Format Atelier created a new AR Instagram filter for the launch of Glass Animal’s 3rd album, Dreamland. When fans scan the record artwork, elements (including the 3D scanned head of Dave the lead singer) emerge from it and swirl around in hazy, dream-like patterns.

Virtual Events

Saint Motel make history as “the first band to open their own virtual world” powered by Mozilla Hubs. The quartet’s “New World” welcomes fans into a 3D VR chatroom enabled for all headsets and browsers. In this space, audiences can enter an exclusive, immersive environment to engage directly with the band through virtual meet-and-greets and intimate, live performances, consume exclusive video content, and much more. Additionally, it doubles as a space for fans to congregate and get to know each other as well. Saint Motel’s “New World” is in its final stages of development and set to launch imminently.
